Seatpost size?

Hi all,
Not sure if this is the right forum for my question, but we'll see.
I just picked up a 1984 Bertrand frame, Columbus tubing with a sticker that only says Tubi Rinforzati Garantiti (which to my anglo-eye looks like guaranteed reinforced tubing). I don't see any indication of SL/SP, SLX/SPX or anything else.
I have a spare seatpost, but it was 26.6mm and didn't fit (too small, which I expected), so now I'm looking around for a larger post.
Does anyone know what size post this tubing should take, or am I better off just getting it measured? For what it's worth, I'm going to try to avoid buying a new post, and look at the local bike co-op instead.

Thanks,
Neil

My guess would be 27.2mm, but you need to measure to be sure. Calipers or cool sizing rods at the bike shop are the way to do this. Of course, 27.2mm posts sometimes fall out of trees they're so common, so you could try one from the bike co-op and see if it works.

Thanks Esteban,
I have one of these (though not the digital variety, it's a good one), and while I find it very good at measuring the seatpost collar, it's been my experience that this may be distorted and not reflective of the tube size below. I wouldn't have thought that .2mm could make that much difference, but it can!
Cheers, Neil
