Cleaning inside of frame?

Hi!

I'm rebuilding an old Miyata bike I've had for 25 years.
At the moment it is completely dismantled and all new parts are on order *exciting*

The frame is in good condition for being so old, but there is superficial rust in the seat tube and head tube.
What is the best way to clean and future protect the inside of the frame?

Thank you so much for your advice

You could read about oxylic acid in the CV forums.

Oxalic acid can be used to remove the rust from an entire frame or parts you can soak in it. Bit of an undertaking but works well.

For spots of superficial rust I would get yourself some rust cleaner (CLR, Barkeeper's Friend), a rag, and a stick. Scrub it out from the inside - you can push the rag all the way through the headtube, obviously, and down the seattube to the BB shell. You're done when the rag comes out clean. Then add a coat of spray-in framesaver to prevent future problems.
