Time for new bottom bracket

Hi all, I have a Bianchi Brava from the mid eighties. It has the cup and cone type of bottom bracket. Shimano 105 components. It is getting rough and noisy, would like to install cartidge type BB. What do I need to know to get this ordered? Or will I need to remove the arms and measure everything. Thanks for the help.

Hello if look around on the sheldon brown website you will likely find the information on the length BB spindle which is likely to be about 115mm or so. on a Brave (japanese/tiawanese?) it should be an english BB 1.370x24 it would be best to remove and measure your spindle to be certain.

Thanks for the info. I was afraid I'd have to remove the arms for measuring- oh well. When I bought it new 1987 me thinks, I was told the lower end Bianchi's were being built in Japan.
Thanks again.

Its most likely english threaded. You'll have to pull the arms to be completely sure on the spindle length but 115 is a good guess if its a double, probably 118+ if triple

Uh why, you have to remove the arms to put the new one in anyways...

I know, just being lazy/paranoid. Can't help but think the taper in the arms might grow a bit everytime the arms are installed. Hate to have it down for a week or so. I might get lucky with the LBS.
thanks again

That'll only happen if you're overtorquing everytime. I wouldn't worry about this.
