Rank amateur needs advice 1978 Raleigh

Hi,
For the first time since I've had this 10-speed bike (new), I'm tearing it down and cleaning it up. I'm fairly handy with tools but know next to nothing about bike repair or terminology, so please bear with me! I want to remove the set of gears from the rear hub to clean up & inspect. Does it require a special tool? Thanks.

You need a freewheel remover that matches your freewheel. My guess from the photo is that it's an Atom, but I could be wrong. It might be easier to find a bike shop who has the right tool to take it off than it might be to find the tool to buy.

Checkout the barnetts manuals in the sticky thread. You nead chapter one- basics, it will tell you the terminology, and chapter 25- freehub and thread on freewheel, this is for the actual mechanical proceedures.(yours is a freewheel not a freehub I'm sure)
