I positioned mine where there was the least likely to have compressive stress, the rear. Shear force? What shear? The cr is fully supported by the crown. The bearings are point loads so there is no shear that I can see. The only compression the back experiences is going over bumps or braking. Locating the crack on the side allows for compressive stress during turning, left turn left side.
