Suntour Rear Derailleur
 

I think this is my first post, so thank you. This is a suntour rear derailleur and I am attempting to adjust it.

I have two questions. 1. Judging by the pic, is my H screw to the rear (left) of the L screw or vise versa? 2. and equally important, When the chain is on the smallest rear cog (six speed), the chain is rubbing across the other cage (see pic), how would I resolve this? Thanks in advance!

Whichever screw causes the derailleur to move in or out when you turn it when the chain is on the smallest cog, that is the HI limit screw.
I would guess that the chain is rubbing in the picture because you are on the small front chainring. Shift the rear towards the middle of the cassette and the front onto the large chainring.

is that an Alpha 5000? nice stuff. you chain looks a bit long did you change something recently? I can never which screw is which I always have to look.

Your cable housing from the chain stay to the derailleur is way too short. It should be long enough that it comes into the derailleur with no kinks.

You probably need to remove 1 link of chain.

+4 :thumb: to both you and Homebrew01. Yes - new housing and a link removed. Get a new cable while you're at it. And clean it well and re-lubricate with fine oil.

My guess, and this is strictly a guess but based on other model derailleurs I have, is that the right side screw is the high limit screw.

I agree the rear housing and the cable are too short and should be replaced. Be sure the bike will shift into big-big before you shorten the chain too much.
