Problems with my head..........set?
Hey guys
I just installed a Cane Creek head set on my bike. It seems to run all right, but when I start pounding, it starts to creak. Sounds like the cartridges are moving around in there. No knocking, and it seems to be tight. Could it just be the wrong stack height? :irritated |
Beastie, can you be more specific? is it an A2 headset?, do you have 1"or 1 1/8" steerer tube? , do you have suffcient spacerings between your stem and headset?
Need more info, |
Its 1 1/8
s2 could I have too much spacer in there? |
Not likely, because you notice when you have too much spacers, the whole set up won`t work with that.
You can check the adjustment by; pulling the front brakes and to move the cycle back and forwards, if there`s too much space in the adjustment, you should see the fork moving in the frame tube or hear a ticking sound. If so, just undue the stem bolts, give the topcap bolt more tension and tighten the stembolts again. Good luck, |
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.........................beeeer
I tried that already....tightened it right to the nuts. Ill figure it out. thanx man cheers |
You should try to get a better handle on where exactly the noise is coming from. Have a friend stress the headset, while you listen and feel for the noise. A creak can often be felt as well as heard.
There may be something loose in the press fit, or even if the stem/column interface. For more on headsets see http://www.parktool.com/repair_help/FAQhdset.shtml |
creaking when you jam seems more like the bars and stem. make sure the clamp holding the bars on is tight.
|
Did you grease both the stem and headtube when re-assembling and tighten very securely?

no
