Barrel Adjusters for my cable stops?

I'd like to install barrel adjusters on my Cannondale. I see that cable adjusters thread into the cable stop, but my stops are not threaded. Is there any way around this?

I've tried inline adjusters and do not like them. They only work when there is no tension on the cable and they strip easily.

Thanks

There is an adapter you can get which the barrel adjusters will thread into and the adapter fits into the cable stop. I'm not sure what it is called or where to find it though.

You can also get these barel adjusters which work on non-threaded caliper stops:

can be used at the brake levers or at the brake calipers

Here is a cheaper version of the same thing-I'd go with the Ritchey tho.

I recommend the one's I link to below - the top two. You can put them anywhere in your cable-line. I find them especially useful for front-derailleurs - as the cable loves to settle and, as it does, throws the accuracy off. Causing rattles as the chain starts rubbing the cage.

You should try inline adjusters that don't suck like the ones panther just linked.

I was unsuccessful searching for an adapter. The adjusters you linked to look ok. Have you used them before? Can you operate them with one hand while the cable is under tension?

I'm not looking for in-line adjusters for the reasons stated in the OP.

It is the same.

Without threaded stops you may have no choice but to use a form of in-line adjuster. There is a technique for reducing cable tension while riding. Simply work your shifter to get to smaller cogs or chainring without pedaling. The stiffness of the chain will hold your derailleur in place. Make your cable adjustment and you should be good to go.

FWIW, what seems like a stripped adjuster is usually just loose between the ferrule and cable. Once the friction is overcome by trying to increase tension without relieving cable tension, the ferrule slips around the cable end. A bit of super glue usually solves this.

Here is an inline barrel-adjuster mounted with the cable for a front-derailleur. These allow much more travel to allow one to adjust the cable-tension - than do the barrel-adjusters at the shifter that come stock with most shifter mechanisms:

What you are looking for are Jagwire BSR233 'Mickey' adjusters. They look like this

Bikeman has them for $10. Your local bike shop should be able to get them from QBP.

Bikeman states their price is $9.99 for a 'pair.' Not sure about that - a pair as in 2 of them? That would be a very good deal.

Yes. A pair as in one for rear, one for front.

Have to agree with you. I have these on my commuter with a Nexus hub. They have no spring so they seem to self-adjust with shifting, bumps, etc.
I'm going to give these a try.

Those are the exact same one's in my link. The eBay price for a pair is quite good, but they are always in stock at BikeToolsEtc.

Been using them for years. The work smoothly and perfectly.
