Help with installing Rotor Q-rings!

I'm not able to setup 53/39 Q-rings on my road bike with Shimano(6600) E-type derailleur. It always ended up with chain rubbing the cage. The cage has a groove along the chain and the chain moving vertically makes it very difficult to get the chain centered in the cage.
Are E-type derailleurs compatible with Rotor Q-rings? Which derailleurs are compatible with Q-rings? TIA.

Can you post a link to the derailler you have? Shimano does not make any road front deraillers in an E-type. That is a MTB-only front derailler style.

Have you read the write up at www.parktool.com for setting up a front derailler? Note that the height you'll want to set the FD at is the height at which it will clear the largest diameter on the chainring.

Given what I've seen on Pro bikes, any standard road front derailler should work just fine with the Rotor rings though I've never set them up myself.

There's no such thing as an e-type ultegra derailleur.

1. The groove in the second photo(34).. If the ring were circular the chain just stays fine within the groove but with the Q-rings, the chain moves more than the groove's breadth and rubs against the cage.
2. The bike is setup for 3x10.

I feel I should give a try with 2x10.

Where is the chain rubbing the cage? Can you take a picture of the crank (preferably with the crank facing the camera straight on) with the chain on the big and middle rings? Also, take a picture of the alignment of the chain inside of the derailler cage.

Switching to a double won't help you at all, especially if you don't already know how to set up a front derailler.

One last thing, just FYI. The derailler type you have is a braze-on.

Rotor Rings will not work with triples, unless you buy the inner Q-ring to go with it.

I've set a bunch of these up, and the best way is go compact double. With RotorRings, unless you are really out of shape or have some issue that requires you don't ever push hard on the pedals, you will not miss the triple.

But forget trying to make it work as you have it now. The problem is that the shape of the front derailleur cage expects the chain be at a certain height relative to the inner cage, not moving up and down.

I don't see why they wouldn't work with a triple. I've set up cranksets where the outer two rings were elliptical (though not Rotor Q-rings) and the inner was round. All front derailler cages "expect" a round chainring. I don't see how going to a compact double solves anything.

Inner double cages don't have a "bump". The bump is the problem. Compact double-no bump-shifts fine.

But nevermind that both the people who make these rings and a mechanic who has fitted dozens of sets tells you "it doesn't work". It "might" work with a hodgepodge mix of parts, but with STI, you have to work within the system's limitations.

Your explanation still isn't making it clear why the triple derailler won't work with a round inner ring. I also fail to see how using STI shifters factors into the problem. Any chance you have pictures to illustrate the issue?

[1] and [2] shows how I could I setup.
[3] Outer chainring and inner sprocket. Though it appears like touching cage it doesn't. No problem at all.
[4] Middle chainring and inner sprocket. It rubs, in fact it starts touching the cage when @ 6th sprocket.
[5] It does not shift to the innermost chainring at all.

So, I could not even install it to work with the bigger 2 chainrings. :(

Bikewise: Yes, I find the bump(referred as groove in my first post) the problem. Shifting to compact mean new chainrings and cranks?
Are there any other FD that are compatible with the standard rotor rings that I have?
What are the options left for me, if I want to use the rotor I have? TIA

I have the rotor rings 53/39 on Shimano 7800 Dura Ace. Works fine. Front dérailleur had to be moved up a bit. This is on a Cervelo RS 2008.

Can you please post images? Is it a braze-on FD?
If I have to switch to 7800, would I need both FD and shifter?
