brake squeal
Just installed new kool stops to my v-brakes.Dual compounds.Ive done everything one does to get them to stop squealing except the stiffener.Never made noise with oem stuff.Im wondering if the rim scrubber thing is the cause?Thinking of trimming that bit off.Any comments?

I've got the salmon koolstops. The rear has a small amount of toe in so makes no noise, the front is strange, it occasionally makes noises but only when the pads are clean. The noise goes as the dirt builds up. I've toed them in as well. I find that the bolts need to be quite tight to stop the pads from moving back flat against the rim.

I noticed thats exactly whats happened. The pads have gone back from toe in to flat, have to make bolts tighter i guess.Ive tried dragging brakes down hills to break them in but way to noisy.Might go back to stock stuff yet.

KoolStops, again. bk

We had the black/salmon Koolstops on our tandem's front v-brake. I tried everything under the sun. My wife forbid me to ride within 100 ft. of another bicycle due to the noise. Went with straight salmon and the noise is essentially gone - get a faint squeak at light pressure, but the eardrum-busting SQUEAL under hard braking is no more.

I toed them in again only this time i tightened them super tight.Seems to have worked,if they dont move and go flat against rim again.Strange i read on (Bicycle Tutor) that pads are supposed to be installed flat on v-brakes.
