Campy 11sp Front Der Compatibility Q

Yesterday my new Chorus group arrived . Unfortunately, the threads pulled out of the braze-on front der when I tried to tighten it down . Looks like it was just wire instead of tapped?

Anyway, I'm planning to call the shop I bought it from to see about a warranty replacement.

So here's my question. Will my previous front der work in the meantime? It's pre-2000. If not, that bike is out of commission until the new part arrives.

Looks like I can switch the front der's later by removing the screw that holds the cage together and making enough space to slip the chain through. Am I correct there? If I need to remove the chain to swap them, I'll need to get another pin for the chain.

Thanks!

The threads are tapped, but probably for a helicoil thread insert. If you knew that a genuine helicoil was used, a new one could be installed. Unfortunately, there are other brands of very similar, but perhaps not identical products.

You old FD will probably work - not perfectly perhaps, but the shifter should have plenty of cable pull to make it work. It has enough cable pull for a triple FD.

You can install the new FD without removing the chain.

Thanks Dave. That's what I was hoping to hear! I don't expect too much trouble in getting the part replaced, but you never know. And yes, it looks like a helicoil insert.
