Brake stud removal tips?
Any specific tips on removing studs from the brake bosses on a fork - other than heat and force? (Added disk brake/removed V-brake.)

What kind of fork? Are they removable?

Steel studs are screwed into aluminum bosses on a fork like this:

OK. It'll likely chew 'em up a bit, but try a good set of vice-grips clamped really hard on them.
|
8mm wrench or vice grips, they are tough to move
|
I would saw them off and then file down the remaining bits of metal.

are you planning on respraying? if not, I'd rather have unused canti bosses, than a destroyed finish.
|
I want to remove the studs, but keep the bosses for future considerations.

Jan, you are sure they are removable, right? just use a pair of vice grips, it doesn't matter how chewed up they get, because a replacement set is cheap. If you ever want to go back from disks that is. |

for the record, a good many cantilever bosses have removable studs. They just don't come out easily.

Peterson Vice-Grip 10WR did the trick. Serious threadlocker.

I just used a 5 inch long wrench. I don't know, it wasn't so hard. My boss said I would have a hell of a time getting them out. None whatsoever.
