Brake stud removal tips?

Any specific tips on removing studs from the brake bosses on a fork - other than heat and force? (Added disk brake/removed V-brake.)

What kind of fork? Are they removable?

Steel studs are screwed into aluminum bosses on a fork like this:

OK. It'll likely chew 'em up a bit, but try a good set of vice-grips clamped really hard on them.

8mm wrench or vice grips, they are tough to move

I would saw them off and then file down the remaining bits of metal.

are you planning on respraying? if not, I'd rather have unused canti bosses, than a destroyed finish.

I want to remove the studs, but keep the bosses for future considerations.

for the record, a good many cantilever bosses have removable studs. They just don't come out easily.

Jan, you are sure they are removable, right?

just use a pair of vice grips, it doesn't matter how chewed up they get, because a replacement set is cheap. If you ever want to go back from disks that is.

Yes, from the back of the boss it's easy to see that the stud is screwed in - extra threads on the inside of the boss are visible beyond the stud.
I'll just accept that the studs will be marred in the removal process.

Peterson Vice-Grip 10WR did the trick. Serious threadlocker.

I just used a 5 inch long wrench. I don't know, it wasn't so hard. My boss said I would have a hell of a time getting them out. None whatsoever.
