if you have all the right tools, it's easy as all get out. Otherwise, you'll be spending hours hammering at it with a crowbar and end up worse than when you started.
It's pretty easy, but it's also easy to mess up. I just stripped a crank due to carelessness, and hard one hell of a time getting it off.
buy a crank extractor, and pedal wrench and a crank bolt wrench. Don't do anything without these.
1: remove your pedals. Do this while the cranks are still on the bike. It's easier that way.
2: remove the bolts holding the cranks to the bottom bracket. double check that you removed both bolts. check to see if there are washers in the hole.
3: carefully thread in crank remover.
4:carefully remove crank.
5: place new crank on bottom bracket spindle
6: replace crank bolts. Torque properly (using a real torque wrench if at all possible)
