Older Look pedal question
Ok, so i was talking with a friend and he told me his dad has an older pair of Look pedals. He said i could have them for 40 bucks.
so basically what I was wondering was...would it be possible to repaint these?
also, he said they are like 20 years old...anything I should worry about if i were to buy them from him?

I sometimes get pedals like that free with vintage road bike purchases. $40 sounds a little high for 20 year old pedals, when you can
buy new Shimano's for $50-$60?,,,,BD

$40 is quite high for these pedals. Check out Performance and look for their brand of pedals, new for the same price

I had these for a while. Couldn't tell a difference between these and my Ultegra pedals - definitely worth the money and they come with cleats. If you have knee problems or don't want your foot to float I'd go with the red cleats which Performance will switch out for free if the one in your area isn't full of ****** bags.

The inboard bearing is held in place with a cir-clip so the axle is grooved for it. I had a Look pedal shear at that groove. Don't ride them anymore.

ProBikeKit.com has the Shimano R540 pedals for $42.17 w/ free shipping to the US.

With this in mind, $40 for some old pedals (you didn't mention cleats but they will set you back another $20 or so if not included) seems too high.

They're nice pedals, but not $40 worth of nice. You can find them on eBay for $15-20 all the time.

I got a pair of those from a freind. They have worn crunchy bearings. I tried a few times to get the plastic cap off them with my pin spanner. It wont budge. Does it just pop off like a plastic pedals cap?
I couldnt see a circlip on them. Are they bearing cartridges or cup and cones?

+1....I bet if you patiently watched ebay you could get them for 10 bucks or less. They are probably ok if y the bearing spin smoothly....also why would you want to paint them??
