Giant Tcr advanced 2 headset troubles..
I've had a problem with the bearings in my headset on my giant tcr advanced 2 2009. The original problem was a slight judder between the forks and the frame and a creaking from the bearings. I am looking for a cheap replacement but am unsure which headset to buy. Are there different sizes or can i just buy any headset? I think the current headset is a cane creek, but it is not on their website.

From your description of the problem, I suspect the headset was never properly adjusted in the first place, and may not need bearing replacement now.
If you're unfamiliar with proper headset adjustment, simply replacing the bearings won't solve anything. If you have a good relationship with a LBS, let them check it, and replace the bearings if needed, and at the same time show you how to keep it adjusted. Otherwise consider getting the same help from a knowledgeable friend.

I think FBinNY is right and it's an adjustment problem rather than defective bearings. Have either the LBS or a knowledgeable friend show you exactly how it's done and be sure there is a 2 - 3 mm gap between the top of the stem or top spacer and the top of the steerer. If the steerer is not spaced below the stem or spacer you will never get a proper adjustment.

Cheers for all the help. I've taken apart the headset and cleaned it all up, but the bottom bearing is clogged up inside, and as I'm not particularly skilled at bike mechanics, I'd prefer not pull it apart before I know I have a replacement for it, now I know the size, I can order a spare one. Cheers again, Simon.
Ps, FBinNY, you're right, the headset was not setup correctly in the first place, like most of the bike--LBS is completely useless....
