Your Garage/Shop/Workroom As-Is

As the weather gets colder, my workbench area in the garage gets less and less organized. I suspect this is true of other folks too. Don't be shy, and don't show your organized, every-tool-in-its-place workshops. Messy shops only!

Note that I also park two cars in my "workshop":

My bike would get mad if I hung it upside down.

My garage is so cluttered I have the bike in the house.

Those photos made me dizzy.

Doohickie 01-08-10 10:02 PM

It looked more like this in cleaner, more organized times.

Dang, see that clock on the wall? It says it's time to clean up!

And I thought I had a mess! Lordy! That's it! When I return from my venture - I'm renting a dedicated garage. Thankfully there's one down the block. And the owner can no longer fix his Corvair's!

Good Luck - Doohickie! May you find a dedicated-space for cheap. Or start reading Thurber.

I'm guilty of that.

I have an electric heater in my workshop, but I don't turn it on unless I'm going to be working down there for an extended time. Consequently I have a tendency to just drop whatever I have in my hands on the workbench and head up into the warm.

I posted this messy picture before. It shows just about half of the shop. There are 27 bikes in there, plus 12 in the garage right now. This time of year is a good time to find deals on bikes, but a lousy time to sell them. IT has gotten so packed that I only have about 50 square feet of working room right now, so I am in the process of rearranging the inventory.

This is about as messy as it gets.

Well, at least you're trying, John.

The Chopper/Drag bike caught my eye too. I haven't seen one like it before and would like to read a little about it. Can anyone shed some light?

I haven't done much in the bike room lately, and will soon need to move it all down to the basement, if I can make room for stuff down there. Most available space in the house was in extra bedrooms so the bike room is a converted 2nd floor bedroom. Wish I had a garage. A lot of it should go into the trash. Most of my bikes are elsewhere. Utility bike stays outside in the shed, folder in the front hall by the door, road bike currently on rollers in the basement.

Yeah, zombie thread, but...

LOL IKEA HAX

I've been working in the family room lately, but the bikes themselves were getting in the way. This helps.

A 4x4 and three hooks I had laying around, and the little L-brackets holding the 4x4 to the bookcases came with the bookcases themselves.

Living in a tiny college apartment sucks sometimes. This is my bedroom/workshop. Bikes have been built from the bare frame here. The Shimano shoe box is my tool box.

Man, I'd be kicked outside and sleeping in a tent if I brought any bikes inside the house! My garage is getting cluttered again. 4 flips and a keeper has joined us since I got it sorted. Here's a pic when I began cleaning up.

Inside the house: here's the workshop (former living room), on a clean day. Bought a beaten down, worn out duplex three houses down the street so I could have adequate work space. One unit is a workshop, the other is being restored for living area (1934 vintage home). While the living room is the main workshop, the kitchen is the bicycle clean up area, back bedroom is parts and frames, front bedroom is tools, and the garage is full of bikes, wheels, frames, handlebars, etc:

Another resurrection of this zombie thread.

WELL. I haz a bike cave. :D

It used to be my son's room, but he moved out over a year ago. It looks neat but there's lots o' crap in the closet.
