Two non working bikes into one that will

So I recently bought an early 90s schwinn voyager that's in semi decent condition. Ok so most of the parts are worthless and I pretty much bought a frame. I have a 2003 bianchi imola that I was thinking of stripping to build up the schwinn for a tour I have coming up. I was wondering if I could get some insight about possible problems that I might run into.

The bottom brackets are both English, the front derailer clam size will work on the schwinn, they are both spaced at 130 in the rear. My big question has to do with the brakes. The bianchi has sti shifters while the schwinn used downtube ones. Also, the schwinn came with really nice dia compe cantilevers, will I be able to use 105 shifter/brakes that are currently being used with calipers?

Any help/ advice would be appreciated. I'm not a mechanic but I do have a little experience working on bikes and would like to do the majority of the work myself.

What's wrong with the Bianchi?

Sounds reasonable to me. Your STI levers' cable pull will match the canty brakes.

The bianchi needs a tune up more than anything else. The thing is, I'm planning on doing a 600 mile tour this summer and would much rather have a touring bike than a racing bike. The bianchi has no eyelets for racks or fenders, can't accomidate tires bigger than 700x25 and the geo is a little steep for spending all day in the saddle.

More to the point, what's wrong with the Schwinn? You might do better to fix it up and have two usable bikes.
