7 sproket rim on a 6 sproket bicycle?
My bike's original rim has 6 sprockets and its too far gone to be fixed. I found a rim that has 7 sprockets. I'm able to ride the bike with it but I can't shift. I'm guessing a 7 sprocket won't work work on a 6 inch bike? I was about to get a new rim when I saw the 7 sprocket rim on the side of the street. I didn't realize it had 7 sprockets until I went to put it on. I had to squeeze it in between the frame, which didn't bode well for it working. It looks like the re-railer is too close to the sprockets to be able too move properly. Maybe the problem that the rim is wider than the original one and not the sprockets. There's like 2 MM between the smallest sprocket and the frame. Barely enough room for the chain.
I guess I'm gonna have shell out 40 bucks or whatever for new one. The one I found is aluminum, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered with it. It needed trued and has a slightly bent axle. I took it to a bike shop to get it trued(I've taken bikes completely apart and put them back together several times over the years, but I could never learn how to adjust spokes. I even tried watching YouTube videos).
I have a basic 26 inch mountain bike BTW.

Some say an aluminum bike frame is not safe to spread for a wider hub.
I wouldn't get the seven speed wheel fixed if you have index shifting because it won't work right without several expensive changes.

Its just the rim I found that is aluminum. The wheel is already fixed. I was just wondering if it was usable. It seems the problem is that the hub is too wide which I can't do anything about, so I'll just get a new rim. Thanks
