my Bridgestone SC brakes just stopped SC'ing!

I've got a 1985 Bridgestone 600 that I bought in near-mint condition off eBay 2 years ago. Everything's been working fine - or at least everything that I haven't already replaced -- including these original idiosyncratic house brand "Self Centering" brake calipers

...or at least they were, up until last week. Now the rear brake no longer Self Centers (which they used to do surprisingly well). The left side brake pad now stays snug up against the rim when I release the lever. No amount of squeeze/release cycles changes that.

If I hold the right brake pad & squeeze the lever, the left one works fine. But when left to its own devices, when I squeeze the lever both calipers move in but only the right one moves out. (fwiw, if I hold the left brake pad & squeeze the lever, the right one works fine.)

This all just started a week ago...shortly after (though not immediately after) my LBS guy installed new brake pads. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Wow, I forgot about these things. My '85 Bridgestone 400 also came with them and, as you mentioned, they did self-center remarkably well. I believe they were actually made by Dia-Compe and private-labeled for Bridgestone.

It's possible something slipped, like a return spring seat, when the brake shoes were replaced. Try comparing the rear brake with the front brake (which I believe still works properly) and see if there are any obvious differences or displace parts. Also, clean and relube all of the pivot points and be sure the center mounting bolt's nut is tight.
