Shimano FD question
hello,
i have Shimano 105 FD-5504 FD installed on a bike and it is bottom pull. I noticed that as the shifter cable rounds the bottom bracket shell and heads straight up to the cable fixing bolt of the FD, some kind of roller about 1/3" diameter and 1/2" hits the cable and gets in the way. The roller is an intergrated part of the FD. I dont know what it does. The problem is sometimes it hits the cable, sometimes it doesnt. It affects the cable tension of the FD and messes up shifting. If anyone could advise if should cable roll/slide on the roller or not touch roller entirely? This way I could fix it to keep that position. I cant find an exploded view of the FD in the internet and could not show it here sorry. Just hope you know what I mean but if you look at your own Shimano FD, you cant miss what I am referring to. Thanks. |

Thanks. http://techdocs.shimano.com/media/te...9830608805.pdf And here's the installation instructions: http://techdocs.shimano.com/media/te...9830603724.pdf I think you may not have the cable routed correctly. Refer to Step 2 under SIS adjustment: "Connection and securing of cable". The cable should go over the top of the cast-in pin on the arm before it's pinched by the bolt. It's common to try to wrap the cable around the bolt- this will cause the cable to be pulled incorrectly. |
The "roller" you refer to is probably the coil return spring. Jeff has it right and routing the cable on the wrong (inside) of the tab to the left of the fixing bolt can cause the cable to hit this spring.
The proper routing is to have the cable go to the left of this tab and over the top of the fixing bolt. |
