Making the leap - same cable housings?
Switching out my 105 stuff for 2010 Force - can i use the cable housings which are less than 6 months old, or do I need to buy new. I am looking to wrap the shift cables under the bar tape, btw. Thanks!

New in box Sram Double Tap shifters come with cables and housing (I do not like the new clear coated cables -- but the housing is good). By using a different routing you may have to use new housing anyway.

Cable housing wears at the insides of the curves. Give your new group a chance to perform at 100% with new housing when you change over. In the scheme of things it isn't a big investment.

What a waste of time to build with old cables and housing. **** that.

It depends on the amount of use. Are they 6 months old with 200 miles on them, or 6 months old with 2000 miles on them? In the first, the answer is sure, use them again. In the second example, definitely get new.
OTOH, if you work at a bike shop or otherwise have immediate access to inventory, by all means use new covers - it's silly not to. |
