Spindle length, drive side vs non-drive side Campagnolo Daytona
Can't find any info on this issue through searches. I have a Campy Daytona bottom bracket and Daytona crank. BB is a 111mm and the crank is a double. These came together and came off a bike I rode for a while so I know they work together. I was trying to put this on a Lennard Zinn frame I just picked up.
When I try to put this on the the Zinn frame, the small chain ring hits the chain stay. I figure I need to get a new bottom bracket but here's something weird I noticed. I measured the drive side part of the spindle and it's actually shorter than the non-drive side. I've checked, double checked and triple checked that I am measuring drive side vs. the non drive side. The drive side measures around 18mm from cup to end of spindle and non-drive measures around 20mm.
This can't be normal. Has anyone else seen anything like this?
Anyway...I put an older Suntour Sprint bb and crank and there and it works fine but would love to get the daytona crank on there.

The place to meaure would be the cup face that actually contacts the right side of the BB shell, to the end of the spindle. Measuring that with sufficient accuracy is not easy, but in theory, it would be (111/2) - (68/2) = 21.5mm.
When you have the crank on the bike, you should measure from the side of the seat tube to the tip of a tooth on the little ring, then added half the seat tube diameter. That total should be close to 40mm. If it is, then there is nothing wrong with the chainline and it's the same as any other double crank.

Any resolution to this? I have the exact same problem. I'm rebuilding a Serotta Councours I purchased about 8 years ago. I was plannin to upgrade my BB and assumed I wanted a 102 spindle. Today I measured my old one (Daytona) and it is, in fact, 111mm. The bike is all apart so I can't measure chainline. The bike came with Daytona 175 cranks which were too long so I put on a set of 172.5 Record cranks and have been riding for years that way. Then today I pulled out the original cranks and they slide deeper onto the square taper by about 2mm. So it seems that the orginal setup had the longer spindle with the cranks fitting toward the end (ouside) of the spindle. So, if I go to shorter spindle, and the spindle will be shorter and the cranks will slide on further, that is, closer to the BB. This would be a major change to the chainline.
Any recomendations? I think I have two choices. The first would be to put the original BB back in and used the Record cranks. The second would be to replace the BB with a 111 and use the Record cranks. It seems that a 102 is going to be too short.
