Correct BB torque too much?
 

I just installed my record 111 mm bottom bracket and torqued both sides to 612 inch/lbs as listed in the Park manual. The spindle seemed tight to me. There was no grinding but it certainly doesn't spin forever like my 1982 SR BB does. Can the correct torque be too much? When I turn the spindle with my fingers it is much tighter than it was before installing.

Do you know the faces of the BB shell are square to the threads? If not, that could be a problem. The other possible problem is misaligned threads, which really can't be cured.

Most cartridge BBs are a little stiff until they see a few hundred miles of use. If you could barely turn the spindle with your fingers, you might have some cause for concern. Just being a little stiff is not an issue. Campy says to try reducing the torque on the left cup to 30Nm, but some blue or purple loctite thread locker might be wise to use. For loctite to work as intended, both threads must be cleaned before application.

Thanks Dave. That worked. However, I think I'll take the frame down to the LBS and just have them check the alignment. I'd like to be able to seat the left cup without loctite if possible.
