flip flop mod
 
iv been thinking of making my rear tire into a flip flop is there any mods i need to make the the crank? i have a 10 speed right now

When you say 10-speed, do you mean old-school 2 chainrings in front, 5-speed freewheel in back? I'll assume yes...

For a true flip-flop wheel, you'd need to replace the hub with a flip-flop hub. If you're just going for a single-speed, the 5-speed freewheel can be removed and the hub can be respaced and redished if necessary, then you can put on a single-speed freewheel (just one though).

Edit: re-read the post. You may be able to get away with just using one of the current chainrings if it lines up well.

Well technically any TIRE can be flip flop, but it might be a pain to remove the whole tire just cuz you want the tread to go the opposite direction.

JK- Get a new rear wheel with a flipflop hub, you quite obviously are not ready to try building a wheel which would be necessary to change the hub on your current rim.
