Changing wheels or tires on a Trek 7.3FX

Hi
I've owned this bike for 3 years now and I like it a lot. One thing I would like to do is to change the tires or the wheels to something more road bike-like in the hope of getting it to go a little faster. Can I change the tires, the wheels, or both?
I bike in the Catskills so there a lots of uphills and downhills, if that matters.

Thanks for your help.

Stephen

Your bike has 700c wheels with 32 mm road tires so the best you can do is replace the tires with something thinner and lighter. Going to 700x28 or 700x25 tires should save some weight and reduce rolling resistance a bit. There is little benefit to changing the wheels unless you go to much lighter (read $$$$) wheels and the bike doesn't justify that.

Your bike is a hybrid with flat bars and a rather upright riding position. It will never be as fast or aerodynamic as a true road bike.

I've got a set of 28s that I plan to put on my 7.3 if I can ever wear out the Hardcase tires on it now. I just checked, I have 4230.5 miles on the original tires.
