Daily commuter and First broken spoke!

I bought my Trek 7.3fx new exactly one year ago at a LBS. Today I noticed my back wheel was crooked. I thought it just might needed to be trued. I checked the spoke tension and I found the cause. It was one spoke that had snapped off directly from the hub. How much would it cost to replace this one spoke? Does a warranty from Trek or most LBS cover such an issue? Should I fix this issue myself or leave it to a pro? Can I still commute to work with it in this condition? Thanks ahead of time for any input!

Just bring the bike to your friendly neighborhood LBS. Spoke replacement will only take a few minutes for them and they normally true the wheel after replaceing the spoke. The cost is minimal, usually only a few dollars at my LBS. You should get it fixed as soon as possible.

Thanks for your response! I took it in today and they replaced my 12 gauged spoke with a 14 gauged spoke. Is it ok to have one spoke a different size gauge than the others? They trued my wheel and replaced a rim strip for $18. Is this price normal? Cheap? Too expensive?

I just asked at my LBS about the same repair, $1 for the spoke, $15 to true the wheel. So $18 sounds comparable. My opinion is: The different gauge spoke probably wont be a problem, but the correct size would be best.

I would have definately played the warranty card, commuter, future loyal customer etc. Depending on the rim the warranty might have been longer than one year. A coworker had 3 Bontrager rear rims on his 7.5FX replaced under warranty (5 yr on rim at the time) until it was apparent the next time it would be out of warranty so he had custom stuff built.
