Shifter Help

I have a right-side shifter (ST-MC11) that I need help with. I've never worked on shifters before, but it wasn't working at all, so I figured I couldn't screw it up anymore.

I took it apart, messed around with it, and put it back together. Now, it shifts from 4 to 7. Better than before, but I have NO CLUE what else to do!

Are there any tips/tricks? Or, is it time to buy a replacement?

How tight is money? For $23 (plus $4 shipping) you can brand new 7 speed Shimano shifters with new cables and housing. I'd suggest cutting your losses with the old shifter and buying new.

It's not really a money thing, I just get more of a high when I can fix instead of replace. On the other hand, I didn't realize they were that inexpensive! I might just go that route. Thanks!
