Reverse brake levers with clamp??
Hello Everyone. I was not sure where to post this so I thought I would start here.
does anyone know where I can find reasonabley priced reveres brakelevers with a clamp?? I am gathering parts to build a 'runabout' (errand bike). I have Origin8 Moustahce bars I want to use with barend shifters but, I can't find a reveres lever that doesn't plug into the bar. any suggestions? thanks BG |

how about using some of the interupter levers positioned like reverse levers

Are you opposed to running brake levers in the usual spot on mustache bars--at the bends? Maybe you're setting up the mustahce bars upside down or otherwise just want to ride at the ends?

Her's one type but they are made for 22.2 mm bars (i.e. aerobar extensions) so if you are mounting them or road bars or bullhorns they may not fit. Possibly the clamps could be modified. Scroll down for the levers alone: http://jtekengineering.com/Jtek_Brake_Levers.htm
Here is a really different approach. These mount directly on the barend shifters: http://jtekengineering.com/AeroBrake.htm |
I was considering the ones from JTek engineering that Hillride suggested for a build of mine. Someone on this forum said that they were not really made to be primary levers, but should only be a backup lever placed on aero-bars. I'm not sure whether this would make a difference or is important, but I went with a different solution anyway for other reasons.

those first JTek levers are hot... but pricey... wow...

it'd still be awkward to route the cable from the barcon around a clamp unless it's a thin steel strap type clamp. you could get regular flatbar type levers with a 24mm clamp from velo orange and run them in a non-reversed position... or mount your shifters on some paul thumbies behind regular inverse levers?

How about a set of nice Aero levers mounted...backwards? Did that on a bull horn bike with barcons and it worked really well, hid the cables, etc. These are generic ones, but I'm sure you have something nicer at hand.

If you're set on mounting brake levers at the ends of your mustache bars, then using interrupter levers like zzyzx_xyzzy suggests, IMO, would work best. A couple issues would be the routing of the shifter housing and having to wrap tape on both sides of the brake lever. |
bianchigirl,
performance cross /inline levers will do what you want: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2615/...44b14162_b.jpg |
