Using Spocalc with OpenOffice??
I google and read that spocalc works fine with open office--but I can't get the macros to work. I realize that I can just enter the dimensions to the worksheet manually, but I have pissed away so much time trying to get the macros to work that now I am really curious what is wrong . . .
If somebody has been successful, please help! Thanks. Yes, I enabled the macros. |
I took a screenshot showing the error message, but this site is currently not allowing image from my computer. Of course my computer does not allow me to just copy and paste the error message--for unknown reasons the right-click shows no options. Did you ever get the impression it's all one big conspiracy to drive you CRAZY

I have found that gnumeric works better for SpoCalc. Otherwise, you might try the OxygenOffice fork of the OpenOffice.org project, which claim to support VBA macros (I haven't tested it myself).
|
I've never had the macros work on OO as well, but I haven't tried since a much earlier version. I figure it takes me all of 5-10 seconds to just enter the dimensions myself.
|
I could never get the macros to work in both MS office and OO.
but it's not so hard to just copy and paste values over to the calculator sheet. the calculator works fine with macros disabled. |
Yeah, Thanks, Guys. I'm happy to hear that it doesn't work for ANYBODY! What was blowing my mind was that somebody reported it worked just great with open office--therefore I assumed I was doing something wrong and couldn't figure out what . . .
As long as all this talent is gathered in one place--does anybody have any idea why this friggin site will allow you to post images from your computer sometimes, but not always?? If this keeps up, I'm gonna demand my $$ back . . . Oh, wait . . .:D |
Same here with spocalc.xls, but I did find a version called spocalc.sxc that does work in OpenOffice. I don't recall where I found it, though.
Edit: I found it. It is at Mike Sherman's site. http://home.earthlink.net/~mike.sherman/bike.html For some reason, I only get the version for 2.1 to work, the version for 3 has the buttons, but they don't seem to do anything for me, yet. |
Hi--Just started looking at Sherman's. Thanks for the tip!
|
For some reason I have the program in "read only" mode, which means I cannot enter stuff manually even.
But using the macro buttons, after I have made my selections, isn't there an "execute" button somewhere I'm supposed to hit? The stuff on the calculations page doesn't change just because I make some selections. |
No execute button. As soon as you hit one of the buttons it should change on the calculations page. I had to set the security to medium for macros for it to work. Before I did that, I just got a warning about macros. After I changed the setting, OO.org asked if I wanted to run the macros. Then it worked fine.
|
It's been a long time since I futzed around with computers. Working with bikes can be frustrating, but computers take it to a whole different level!
|
Created my own spreadsheet without macros...
...and works fine in Excel or Open Office... http://www.mrrabbit.net/wheelsbyflemingapplications.php Give it a try...it's about 2/3's way down... =8-) |
Thanks, Guys, I'll try some more ideas incl MrRabbit's later on today and report my glowing success story. . .
