Shimano 10 speed cassette

Hi

I just installed an Ultegra 6700 cassette and looking at the technical document it looks like I'm missing a part.

http://techdocs.shimano.com/media/te...9830670739.pdf

The part in question is number 2 the Lockring Spacer which goes onto the smallest sprocket and then the lockring goes on. I didn't have this and I don't remember having this on a 105 5600 cassette I put on another bike. I looked at the other bike and confirmed it didn't have one.

Does anyone else have this spacer on their cassettes?

Also part 13, the spacer that goes on before any sprockets. Normally is this meant to be installed except for special wheels in which case the wheel instructions tell you not to? i.e. put it on unless told not to.

Thanks in advance.

That spacer comes installed on the lockring. Notice how #1 in the diagram points to the threaded ring and the spacer. Together, they make up the lockring.

It is to be installed on all wheels except for wheels using a Shimano 10 speed-specific freehub body. Ritchey and Shimano both made these for a short period and they included taller splines as well as a short freehub length negating the need for the spacer. Most likely, you need the spacer.

Thanks joe. That makes a lot of sense. There is a thin sheet like foil so I guess that is it.
