Avid rotor compatibility
 

I need to replace a warped 185mm Avid Roundagon rotor, but have only seen Cleansweeps in that size. Are all Avid rotors interchangeable? I have the BB7 brakes. Thanks

Yes.

Unless your rotor is excessively worn just true it...but all the Avid 185s will work fine.

As has been established, it'll be fine.

Thanks guys. I trued it the best I could awhile back, but it still slightly rubs and drives me crazy! I'll swap it out today.

new rotors are not true either

Exactly right. They almost always need to be trued up at least a little bit out of the box.

Truing is just something you have to do occasionally...not a big deal and certainly not worth throwing a rotor away over. Just doing it once doesn't mean a lot. It's when the braking track is worn that I stop bothering to true. If you had other than a roundagon I might say I'd take it off your hands even....

Are the deformations in a rotor a product of imperfections in the manufacture, or just mishandling in shipping/the shop?

I replaced it with a cleansweep that was true out of the package. I'll keep the old one around for a spare, but I mangled the wheel in a wreck and bent the rotor in the process. I've never been able to get it quite straight enough to be happy with.
