Ultegra Brake Hoods Compatability.

Thanks for looking at my first post, and please indulge a newbie question. Are all Ultegra model brake hoods compatible? I don't know where to look for a model #, and see all adverts for hoods have a model # like 105, 6600, etc. I,m looking at HUDZ red hoods shipped from England and don't want to get the "wrong" ones.
Many thanks,
Alanoutaoz

Hello Alanoutaoz, welcome to the forums. I am not sur where to look on you brifters but on the back of your 600 cranks and deraileurs you should see the model number. 600/Ultegra parts are usually a 6### seires I believe and 105 a 5### series

Peel the brake hood forward (away from the bar), and you'll find the model number near the top, on the side farthest from the bike.

Thanks for the suggestions. I see #6510 under the brake hood.... the only uncertainty at this point is still "are all ultegra brake hoods inter-changable?" Mine are Flight Decks

You could use 105, Ultegra , or Dura ace as long as they are the right speed. 9speed, 10 speed.....

I can say with near certainty that you won't find Hudz replacement hoods to fit your 6510 shifters (the same ones I have). Your shifters are 9 speed and do not take the same hoods as 10 speed models (66xx and 67xx... I'm not at all certain if 66xx and 67xx take the same hoods though). I'm almost certain that Hudz only markets hoods for 10 speed shifters. (double check though).

I don't think that 9 speed Ultegra and Dura Ace are the same hood either. But, I believe 9 speed Ultegra and 105 do use the same hoods.

If you actually need new hoods (as opposed to just wanting a different color, etc.) you'll have to search on that shifter model number to find the exact replacement.... and you'll be surprised at how much they cost! If you come up completely dry, PM me and I'll look back in my email archives - I bought a set a couple of years ago and can probably find an email from whatever company I used confirming the order.

Another source for replacement brake hoods would be to advertise on here for anyone who has worn out / broken some 65xx or 55xx shifters and would be willing to sell you their hoods. There must be lots sitting in people's drawers - I have one or two, but live in Switzerland.

Thank you all for your input and advice. I'm trying to find red shifter hoods, and Hudz makes them for Ultegra models in the UK. but was unsure if they would fit my 6510's... and Camilo was right, they are expensive.
Thanks again.
