bent BB shell

i have a frame that i was stripping and planning on painting when i realized that the bottom bracket shell is crushed a little on the bottom. i cant get a BB to thread into it. any suggestions on how/if it can be fixed?

Take it to a well-equipped bike shop and have the BB re-tapped and faced. This is not a job for an amateur or inexperienced mechanic.

As long as it's not too far out of round this should be straightforward.

If it was just one little area I would take die grinder to it.

What are you going to grind away? Jeff's suggestion to chase and retap the threads is the only way to salvage this frame other than a complete (read $$$) replacement of the bb shell.

how bad is it crushed/bent? can you post a pic?

I do agree a face and chase should solve the problem depending how bad it is.

I think Don's thinking is that is crushed/bent on the side and is 'mushrooming' and just need to graound/files off a bit, rather than being out of round
