newbie bottom bracket maintenance question: #1 - refacing an old DA BB?
Please excuse my ignorance, but I took the leap into home maintenance this weekend figuring I would finally make the effort to do that annual repacking of headsets and BB's that are so recommended.
Q1. My old-style (spindle, 2 cups, etc.) Dura Ace BB came apart reasonably easily. But, it looks scratched and kind of shot. Can this be refaced or is that just a ridiculous idea? And if refacing is not possible/feasible, do I replace it with the same old 3-part system or a sealed BB?

Refacing is for BB shell if threads are damaged, not the BB itself. If threads, bearings and bearing surfaces of the BB look to be ok, then reuse. Otherwise you can replace with a cartridge BB with same spindle length and style (square taper?) and still use the cranks you have.

right, excuse me.
I mean the cups and spindle, the races, not the BB.

so basically, I should just toss the damaged DA spindle and cups ? (and yes, seeing now how I can replace them all for about 30 bucks, that would make sense.)
sorry for the timewaster here.
