I just bought a hybrid bike with a quick release rear wheel. I guess it wasn't on tight enough cause when i picked it up to take it up the stairs, the rear wheel dropped off. It didn't completely fall off so i was able to push it back into place and tighten it. But now the brakes are clamped tight against the wheel so it won't spin at all. I need to fix this myself cause the bike shop is too far to walk with a non-spinning tire and i don't have a car. Any help?

Follow the cable from the brake all the way to the hand lever, making sure the housing is sitting properly in the stops the whole way. Otherwise, you could just unhook the rear brake until you can get to the shop. A description of what type of brake you have would be helpful.

Is the wheel centered? Is only one brake pad touching the rim?

It's linear pull brakes....the bike i have is a 2010 Diamondback insight 1

I'm at work right now so i'll check when i get home.

So when i squeeze the brake lever it can't travel far. Both pads are on the rim like a vice grip....the only thing that happened was the wheel came loose.

I think the cable must be hung up somewhere.
