Shimano FFS bottom bracket/crank replacement question

I picked up a free KHS mixte frame set the other day with the idea to set it up with some better parts from my bin. When I started to work on it, I discovered that not only was it a cottered crank (I noticed that when I picked it up) it has the Front Freewheeling System. I want to put a three piece crank on it, and a standard bottom bracket.

Does anyone know if the bottom bracket shell is likely to be a standard set up, so I can just swap in a cheap sealed unit?

It not, I am thinking of just leaving the steel wheels I installed for a quick test ride yesterday, replace the cables and housing with a cheap Walmart set and selling her on CL as a cheap across campus bike.

I would think that a KHS has a standard 68 mm English threaded bb shell so you could install any suitable crank. Look at the cups for the current bb and see if there is any size data engraved on them such as "BS" or "1.37x24"

+1. The FFS was designed to fit a standard "English" BB shell:

The difficult part will come when you try to get the FFS cups out- there's no external flats. The inside diameter of the cup accepts an early Shimano splined freewheel tool: https://www.biketoolsetc.com/index.cg...item_id=BR-CT4

Yep, all standard.

Someone over on C+V is actually looking for one of these, too.
