Shift Cable Adjuster??????

Hey guys,

I have a Cannoncale R1000 with Shimano Ultegra shifters, etc. I have pretty much gotten the hang of adjusting the Deraillieur (many thanks to the forum for all of the great posts in this regard) and it really runs and shifts like a dream (compared to my old clunker Motobecane). There is one thing that puzzles me and that is some sort of device on the shift cables located 2-3 inches from the shifters. These seem to be some sort of round, tubular, knurled plastic sleeve over the shift cable housing. These are about 1 1/2 inches long and about 1/4 inch in diameter and can be rotated/spun around the shift cable housing. I suspect they are some type of cable adjuster but I have not noticed them having any effect on shifting adjustment. Granted that I am reticent to really adjust them a great deal for fear of really screwing things up. I can't find anything anywhere to give me a clue as to what these things are.

Can any one shed some light on this and educate me???

Thanks for the help.

they are in-line cable adjusters. they do the same things the spinny cable stops on the frame do. I wouldn't touch them if your drivetrain is running well.

You're exactly right. They are in-line shift cable adjusters. You're also right to be reticent to fool with them too much for fear of screwing up your shifting. Like they say, "If it ain't broke......"

Ok guys, thanks for confirming my suspicions.
