issues changing gears with new chain and freewheel

Motivated by some unfortunate chain slipping, I recently replaced the chain and had a new 5-spd freewheel put on my old bike. Now it's running pretty good, however there is an annoying problem where the chain has a hard time finding the gear when i mover from the 2nd smallest to the middle cog in back. a lot of times i have to wiggle/ readjust the cable once or twice and often it doesnt engage right away, instead the chain skims across the cog. oddly enough, it happens more so shifting from a high gear to lower than lower higher.

shifting is friction..it's a bike from the early 80s. has a suntour honour r derailleur. I've read sheldon's site, park tools and looked at bike tutor videos but I cant seem to get it adjusted perfect. any tips?

thanks

Is it possible that the derailleur hanger is bent?
