Chain issues

I just got a bike from a friend, and am having a problem. Everytime I pedal hard, either from a stop or from a slow pedal, the chain falls off the front gears...EVERYTIME!
Any ideas**********
Thanks

Probably be best to give more of a description of what you're riding: How old is the bike, what kind of a bike is it, are the parts old or new, etc.

Good call, it is a duel suspension Kona, frame is around three years old, and the chane and gears are the same.

Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter

It could be any number of thiings, but first make sure the front derailleur is properly adjusted. If so check for a loose BB, such that when you push hard the crank flexes over causing a shift, You can check by looking down for the movement while pedaling hard.
