Shimano Sora flightdeck left shifter problem

Hi,

I just bought a Specialized Sequoia with Sora shifters and I'm thinking the left one is worn out. Maybe it isn't adjusted correctly but when I try to shift onto the largest chainring it appears to already be in the third click position. The furthest it will go is to the middle chainring. The cable looks fine and I've tried to reposition the derailleur about a hundred times. Before I buy a replacement shifter I am wondering if there is anything I can do to correct the problem????

Thanks in advance,

Ryan

Not enough info.
Disconnect the cable from the DR.
While holding the cable, with a little tension, cycle the shifter.
Does the cable move each time? Do you get three full clicks up and down?

Enjoy

Yeah, I get three clicks but between the 2nd and 3rd it clicks very fast. Almost as if its clicking at the same time.

Thanks for the quick response!

With the dr disconnected?

yes, with the cable disconnected from the derailleur. I put a little tension on the cable with my hand and shifted with my other.

Does the cable move about the same amount each time?

Also pushing the lever half way should = 1 click
Pushing it all the way over should = 2 clicks

I am guessing that the shifter is fine and may have been set up improperly.
Cycle the shifter untill the max amount of cable is extended (hit the side tab 3 X)
Then install the cable again with the DR on the small chainring (should already be there)
Make sure your high limit screw is not blocking the travel of the DR.
Try again.
If problem persists you have a bad shifter.

It clicks very fast into third. I just sprayed some lube into it and it has seemed to click a little better. Maybe that was the problem?

just connected the cable and it still doesn't work. It think its fried!

You could set it up to only shift into the top 2 chainrings if you want.
Set the lower limit screw to the middle chainring and reinstall shifter.
Not a fix but a temp solution to get you on the bike with useable gears.

Enjoy

I would shoot more lube in and work it a bit more before giving up. Nothing to lose at this point.
