Seat post clamp bolt snapped... Any Ideas?
I just overtightened my seat post clamp and the bolt packed it in... very silly of me
The remaining part of the bolt snapped just below the retaining nut so i cant turn it out with pliers and I'm desperate to get it out so I can use a replacement bolt and head for a ride tomorrow morning. Anyone have any ideas how I might be able to remove it? I've only got a limited tool selection - no drills just screwdrivers, allen keys, pliers and a few cycle specific tools... |
Call around to machine or auto shops. Someone will be able to extract it. You can't do it without power tools and an extractor, and even then it will be difficult. If you fail and break an extractor off in the bolt you're really screwed.

I thought that'd be the case... Was hoping someone would have some sort of 'magic recipe' but guess its not to be! Thanks for the tip

Is the seat post clamp removable? If it is, then there are only a few sizes, and you should be able to switch it with one from another bike. If not, then you'll have to find a source for some more specialized tools.

Hacksaw. Replace. (Use a hose clip and duct tape to prevent frame scratch until you get a new one)

just get a new nut piece and bolt from a bike shop. most shops carry some spare hardware for cheap 1 bolt seatposts.
