trouble with tire leakage
 

I have double wall rims and both of my tires seem to have slow leaks in them, if i can't figure out the problem, i'm going to buy new intertubes, but since the rims are double wall, will i need to get special intertubes since the rims are taller than normal rims?

The only advice I can chip into this thread is this:

Check the tubes for punctures. Just remove it from the wheel and inflate it. Run along them with your hands until you feel air hissing out. This is the cause of the error.. just patch it.

I really can not imagine your wheels/rims having anything to do with this.. unless someone can prove me wrong? It's not like he KEEPS getting flats, in which case the rim would be something to examine.

well i'm just wondering if i had to buy new tubes, would i have to get ones with longer stems because the rims are taller than regular rims.

Take the old tubes with you when you buy new ones so you can match the stem lengths.

How slow? It is normal for some leakage.

It is normal to need topping off every few days. I commute every day and top off every 2-3 days. Rims and tires should not normally have anything to do with it. If the leakage seems excessive after reading the replies just replace the tubes and be done with it. Check your rim tape, the stip of material that protects the tube from the spoke ends. If it looks like a stip of inner tube, replace it with Velox or other heavy fabric rim tape.

well i'll say this, i fill it to what the tire says, 50 psi, about 2 days later, it's down to 30-35psi. and it costs money to keep topping it off since there's no where near me with free air, it's all 50 cents :eek:

and even when i do fill it to 50psi, it still seems a little flat low, as if there should be more air in it.

Go to walmart and buy a cheap floor pump in the bicycle department. It won't take long to break even on buying air.

Tubes leak. Since the advent of synthetic rubber tubes, tubes leak; they leak right through the rubber. Natural rubber tubes leaked much less, but they are almost impossible to find since they haven't been made in years. An inexpensive floor pump and a good tire gage will solve your problem.

We did a little leakage experiment at work. Four 26" wheels, pressure set to 46psi they all leaked between 1 and 1.5 psi per day for the week we checked, tapering slightly toward the end.

Unless you have an aero rim the double wall is not wide enough to need any special kind of tube valve

Natural rubber(Latex) tubes leak much quicker than synthetic rubber(Butyl). Latex tubes had advantage of lighter weight but are no longer commercially made because of air leak.
