I built a set of wheels.... about 20 years ago

for my road bike- 32 spokes, straight 2.0mm, Wolber TX rims. I've been riding on them ever since. (Until recently that is. I'm still riding on the rear but I switched to a different front just because one of my wheelsets had a good tire and the other needed a new tire.)

I'm about to build a couple of more wheelsets, and in light of the major battles lately about how wheels and spokes work, along with my order of new rims and spokes I ordered the Park tensiometer.

I just got it so I had to try it on my current wheels. The set that I built 20 years ago tests 95kg on the front and on the drive side rear. My other bike is one that I bought on consignment 19 years ago. I've been using the front wheel off of it lately but I noticed that its spokes seemed loose. I checked one and it doesn't even register on the chart that Park supplies with the tool.

Apparently you were a pretty good judge of tension in your youth....

Nice job on the build (20 YEARS AGO!!) If there was ever a testament to why we spend the time and money to do it right. I sure hope the wheels I have built in the ;ast few years are around in 15 - 20 more years. By the way. I started building using a tensionmeter but now only use it to verify that my "feel" is right. I find that I am usually right where I need to be and end up using it to fine tune the balance. I'm a heavy rider so this aids in durability. My road wheels are on thier fourth season. My MTB Wheels are on thier second and my tandem wheels are fresh builds a few weeks ago.
