Hello all,

I was riding my work patrol bike (waiting for my 21.5 inch trek 8500 to show up) today and the rear deraileur broke. I shifted from 2-6 to 2-7 then I heard a snap then the chain fell off with the bottom part of the deraileur. The bikes we ride are over 5 years old and have never been maintained (I.e. oil, full tear down, etc), nit by my choice through. Other problems include a slightly bent rear wheel, miss aligned brakes, loose motor (electric assist) amoung other things.

I am trying to think how the derailuer could have broken like that. Could maintance be the issue? BTW the bikes are smith and westin tactical models, 20 inch frame. Yes that is one of the major problems also because I am 6-6 and even the 21.5 inch is too small but raised handle bars and seat post help...

Thanks

Funny thing, the other bike same model year etc but in an 18 has xt rear derailuer... mine has another brand I have never heard off...
