croan race seal necessary??

Upon installation of my new Cane Creel Tank II headset I unfortunately broke the very delicate seal that goes over the crown race. I don't see any places i can just buy the seal replacement without the crown as well. Since this is a bottom placement do I really need the seal ( its a good tight fit and the balls are not free floating) or can i improve with something else to keep put dirt ( wax paper..another slim washer?)

you can cut a little piece of tire tube and slip it over the headset if you're really worried about it,, should be fine though, might require a good cleaning and regreasing sooner than if you didnt have the seal but really not a big deal

The seal on the bottom is the most important one. Without it, water spray off the front tire fires right in there.
Contact Cane Creek directly to see if they can mail you a replacement.
Otherwise, Lizard Skins has a neoprene headset seal that will cover it up.
