Success with stuck stem / threaded fork
I recently bought a Casati with Columbus steel tubing, Campy headset and pantographed stem. After removing the stem bolt and making sure the old-style expander plug was free the stem was stuck. The heavy rubber mallet work up and down against the stem did not work. I applied Teflon spray and WD40 for a day. I did get the bars turned about 15 degrees but was afraid to continue and bend the fork or wheel I was bracing against.
Last night I used about a third can of compressed air [for cleaning computers vents] turned upside down and sprayed into the stem bolt hole. The liquid spray quickly evaporated cooling the stem from inside (and frosting the outside). After about one minute I was able to twist the dropbars back and forth and free the stem.
