Specialized Globe Vienna

Hi,

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this, but I have a 2009 Specialized Globe Vienna 1 (https://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/B...5682&Type=bike) and I have a couple of questions.

-Can I (eventually) put disc brakes on this bike? The higher-end models from the same year could come with them as an option (https://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/B...5679&Type=bike)

-The handlebar grips tend to rotate out of their ergonomic position when I ride. They are similar to these: https://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/...emId=0&eid=731 If I replaced them with a "locking" grip, would that solve the problem?

- The bike tends to search for gears sometimes, particularly when I am in the harder gears (when the left shifter is on the third gear) I've read other accounts online where people have a similar issue with this bike. What parts might need upgrading to solve this?

Thanks!

It looks like the frame has mounts for disc brakes but the fork doesn't. Upgrading to disc brakes will probably require you to get a new fork and both wheels. At that point you are probably better off sell this one and buying a bike with disk brakes.

Thanks! I was expecting this kind of reply, and I'm sure you're correct about the cost/benefit, but I'm just the kind of guy who likes to modify stuff! (I guess most guys are like that, actually...) I'll take your advice and stick with my current brakes.

Can anyone else address my other questions? The grips are probably the only thing worth addressing on this bike. Can anyone tell me whether a "locking grip," like this: https://www.specialized.com/zz/en/bc/...jsp?spid=46874
will resist against rotation on the handlebar? That is, does it "lock" in place so it can't rotate, or is it just locked on so it can't slide off?

Thanks!
