Schwinn traveller 2 help i.d a part plzzzz!
Hello everyone,
I just had the most embarrassing accident on this bike I flipped over the handlebars in the middle of the street..lol
besides being extreeeeeeemly embarrassed i broke a piece on the bike..i need help identifying it....and would i be able to glue it with perhaps jb weld ...i know it will be almost impossible to find another match? and what about price to fix something like this...any help is appreciated...

Just replace the complete rear derailleur, including the mounting hanger that is bolted onto your rear dropout. Needs to be properly installed and adjusted. Don't ask how here - either check the Park tool site, Sheldon Brown's site, ask a friend or have a bike shop do it.

What you broke is the rear derailleur and, no, you can't epoxy it back together, it must be replaced. Go to any bike shop for a new one and have them install it or find someone who knows how to work on bikes to help.

thanx for quick reply guys.....can u tell me how much something like that would cost to be replaced? and would i have to replace it with a schwinn traveler 2 exact derailer ? and if so, where would i find one for reasonable price? and in case you needed this info... it is a ladies bike..

If you did an endo and that's the worst of it, then you're lucky. (Broken wrist, head, shoulder, face, etc.)

Any derailuer should work. A cheapy is around $25.

yes you're right, but i was so embarrassed i didn't even think about how lucky i was just to escape with bike damage...

No, it really won't.
You need specifically a "Shimano Tourney rear derailleur with hanger". $25.00 would be on the high side for that derailleur. $15.00 would be more typical. Installation is about a $25.00 job but may run a bit more if it's necessary to replace anything else (like the shift cable and housing).

I was assuming that the existing claw was in good shape (probably a bad assumption) and any derailuer could be bolted onto it.

The pictures are poor but it appears that the original derailleur was rivited to the claw and the claw does not have a standard M10x1.0 threaded mounting hole.

Hi, you mentioned it was a "low quality" derailer what quality is the one that im replacing? its from a schwinn traveler 2 ladies bike..with all original parts including tires and innertube nothing was ever changed? i would like to find the exact one..but i know im asking to much...could u tell me what quality was the original one? should i upgrade to the shimano that was mentioned... i don't have lots of dough to spend though...

ok guys here's the latest....i just realized i had an shimano 400 derailer...something just told me to go look ....yes i just looked at the darn thing...lol..im blaming it on the fall.. but i went and did something dumb i bid on a cheapy thinking i had a no named cheapy..lol....here's is the actuall pic of the one that broke...

and i just bid on one that came off a schwinn varsity/traveler....yeah, maybe the after effects of the fall...
i wanted equal or a bit better i didnt want to down grade..
well im off to look for a shimano 400 ...it never stops does it...
