OK guys there is a way to fix this w/o hammering the rim?

I have a set of wheels that needed truing, i got 3 hops that i was not able to get rid off of, so i basically released tension in all the spokes evenly and started to true again from zero with no tensioned spokes.

Finally got able to get rid off of the hops (1 is in the joint but is almost perfect now,) laterally the wheel is true but i ended with one spoke that is basically not tensioned compared with the other ones, any way to fix this w/o having to hammer the rim in that area???

yea get a new rim. or just loosen the spokes around the low spot and bang it out old school.

Sounds like the rim is bent there. You could tighten it just enough to not go slack and ride it as is, but I would trash the rim if it was for anything other than maybe light commuting or errands.

Darn rim is so nice, I'll smack it probably during the weekend and see how it goes. Sadly it is aero too so for example the hop in the joint is not just go and smack it, why always the darn joints are the problem

I'm surprised the joints aren't an even more common problem.

When they make a bicycle rim (at least the ones I've seen manufactured) they start with a long aluminum extrusion. This is coiled to the diameter of the rim. Then they cut through the coil, flatten it, and join the ends together. However you cut through the coil, it takes some material out so the circumference is a tiny bit short and rims often have a small flat spot at the joint.
