I need a floor pump that can inflate both my car tires and my prestas. I'm considering the Nashbar Red and Orange. If I understand correctly, the Red has a reversible chuck and the chuck on the Orange fits both schrader and presta without having to reverse it. Is that correct?

I'm concerned about damaging the head each time I reverse it. But does the single head of the Orange work as well?

Would the best solution be to use an adapter on the presta valves to avoid changing the pump head?

I just put adapters on my presta's and leave them on. that way I don't have to keep crewing them on an off.

Big difference between a High volume low pressure car tire , and a low volume high pressure Bike tire ..

Lots of pump strokes for the car tires will at least be exercise , too..

2 pumps I purchased in the 80's are still going strong, Silca Pista for Presta, Medai with a thumblock for Schrader..

when I use schrader adapters I screw down the nut on the Presta valve stem when I'm done.. have them on my touring bike's wheels but not at home, Appropriate pump works so much better.

I have the alloy floor drive. It works fairly well, it does very high pressures very well, but it takes a lot of strokes to get a tire to 110. the screw on presta adapter works great on tubes that do not have removable cores (I bought a bunch of removable valve tubes somewhere).

Go to Wal-mart and buy a small electric pump for your car tires. Bike pumps are not designed for that volumn.
For the bike I have an old Silca that works well and is rebuildable. I bought it in 1993.

Yeah, you'd be pumping a loooong time on your car tires.
Allow me to plug Blackburn. Not that they make a significantly better pump than anyone else, but the service policy is top-rate. Years ago, I bought a blackburn floor pump from Nashbar. After about 4 years service, the gauge failed. I e-mailed Blackburn and they said "sorry, we no longer make that model. Send us the pump to check out, and we'll send you an new one."
So, I did, and they did. A nice TP-3 "trackpump". I used that for almost 10 years... Finally, the second set of pump-head rubber gaskets started to go. I e-mailed again, and again it was..."We no longer make that model. However, we will send you a new pump."
And again, they did. A shiny new Air Tower 3 with the clever head that handles all valves.

At this rate, I may never have to pay for a pump again...

On the contrary, bike pumps work fabulously on car tires. I always carry one in my trunk. It's saved me quite a few times, e.g., returning to my car after backpacking in a remote area and finding an almost flat tire on my car. Everyone should carry a bike pump in their trunk. I'm surprised at how many people don't know how useful this is---basic safety item for all cars. So what if it takes 5 minutes to inflate your car tire? Even a cheap Bell pump from Walmart does a great job. Never have to pay for air anymore.
